Sainsbury’s opens low alcohol pub in London

The UK's first no and low alcohol pub is opening its doors in London today.

Sainsbury’s opens low alcohol pub in London

Designed like a normal pub, Sainsbury’s Clean Vic pop-up pub will serve non-alcoholic and low (up to 0.5%) ABV alternatives to win, beer and spirits from 24th to 25th July.

Located on New Oxford Street, The Clean Vic offers over 20 teetotal tipples, including the new Celtic Soul, the UK’s first non-alcoholic dark ‘distillate’ that’s similar to whisky, and Everleaf, an aperitif made of 18 natural botanicals.

The new opening comes as research from Mintel reveals that a third of Britons admit to losing touch with friends after trying to reduce their alcohol consumption, and 46% percent of people saying they miss spending time in a pub.

Aside from serving non-alcoholic and low alcohol drinks, the pub will also host mixology masterclasses as well as no and low ABV beer tasting sessions.

Anne Cooper, buyer at Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re seeing a really exciting spike in the no and low alcohol category at Sainsbury’s which has rocketed since 2015. We know from our customers that there is still some uncertainty about what these no and low alcohol products taste like and how they are made. So, our specially curated workshops in the Clean Vic will help customers learn more about these drinks, providing key tasting notes given by the experts.”

Entry to the pub costs £5, which also entitles pub-goers to two drinks of their choice and two bar snacks. To visit, book online here.
